Traditionally ridge tiles were held in place by a mortar (wet) mixture of water, cement and sand to adhere the tiles to the roof. However, the wind and the rain eventually cause the mortar to crack and crumble, over time. This can cause the ridge tiles to become displaced and even fall, allowing for water ingress which causes more problems. We still carry out repairs and clean the old mortar away and replace with new mortar, ridge tiles can be re-bedded.
Modern installations have replaced the traditional mortar based fixings with a mechanical fixed system (dry ridge system). The mechanical fixed system is much more beneficial and is used in all new builds.
Advantages of a dry ridge system being installed:
More durable than the mortar based fixings
Weatherproof and waterproof
No maintenance required
Allows for the natural movement of the building
